Program

Boston ACE’s tutoring program for English language learners (ELL) has been created with both international students and U.S. born students in mind.   Our English language learner program will allow students to experience greater success academically and socially thanks to improved English skills.  After administering a pre and post test assessing English language comprehension and expression, Boston ACE’s tutors will work with students to do the following:

• Develop confidence  and proficiency in conversational English through structured social interaction
  
  
• Build on vocabulary acquisition and application in written and oral expression
  
  
• Increase understanding of sentence structure and grammar
  
  
• Understand cultural distinctions and expectations which can interfere with a nonnative speaker's ability to express themselves clearly  in academic English
  
  
• Compete academically with strong reading comprehension, verbal communication and writing skills
  
  
• Clarify and strengthen understanding of academic subject material through content vocabulary

Students may sign up for an initial evaluation session in which they will be assessed on their English language proficiency. Due to the self-guided nature of the sessions, students should be prepared to spell out their concerns and troublesome areas so that the tutor may design a customized tutoring plan to be conducted on an on-going basis.
